There is a method to getting your site in the top rankings on a keyword search. It is called reciprocal link exchange. The way it works is that you get other websites to list your site on their websites in exchange for you listing their sites on yours. The idea is to get more incoming hits to your site and what better way than to derive those hits from visits originating at other sites. Search engine crawlers go out and determine link popularity and of course the more people who visit your site, the more likely the search engine crawler will rank your site higher.

The key is to convince the owner of the other web site that there is a mutual benefit to be achieved by listing the link to your site on theirs and the link to their site on yours. You can mention the obvious benefit that there will be more incoming links to them from your site and it will help establish higher search query result rankings. But it will also provide a beneficial resource for visitors to their web site. It must be pointed out that you do not want target your direct competitors for a link exchange. What benefit would that be to them? But, your service might be just what their customers need in addition to the product they buy on their site.
